Physics Underlying Life Sciences

The research of the Smith’s PULS (Physics Underlying Life Sciences) group focuses on the modelling of active living interfaces, in particular cellular membranes and epithelial tissues. The research aim is to capture the biophysical framework underlying complexation, structure formation and transport phenomena in these systems.

A methodological focus is placed on the development of systematically scaled theoretical models beyond the molecular scale, including Langevin dynamics, a variety of Monte Carlo approaches or Dissipative Particle Dynamics among other tools. Simulations are systematically supported by analytic modelling and experiments.
